Abstract

A research work on Air pollution tolerance index of existing nineteen types of flora were carried out to assess their response to air pollutants around the
manufacturing zone, Arasur Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Four biochemical parameters, viz., leaf relative water content, ascorbic acid, total leaf
chlorophyll and leaf extract pH were examined and Air pollution tolerance index of the flora were assessed. All the parameters of the flora were analyzed
systematically, grouped as four types namely Tolerant, Moderate, Intermediate and Sensitive. The forbearing types having higher Air pollution tolerance
index value can be considered for plantation program around the manufacturing zone, so as to reduce the effects of air pollution and make the
surrounding location clean, healthy and safe for working and living conditions.
