Abstract

Background: Cissampelos pareira is a medicinal plant commonly found in tropical regions. It has been
traditionally used for the treatment of various diseases, including infections and edema. The plant has been reported
to have antimicrobial and diuretic properties, making it a potential therapeutic agent for the treatment of various
conditions. Objectives: To evaluate the antimicrobial and diuretic activity of Cissampelos pareira in albino rats.
Methods: The plant materials were collected and extracted using ethanol and water. The antimicrobial activity of
the extract was evaluated using the disc diffusion method against a range of microorganisms. The diuretic activity
of the extract was evaluated using the diuretic index method in albino rats. Results: The results of the antimicrobial
activity assay showed that the ethanol extract of Cissampelos pareira had potent antimicrobial activity against a
range of microorganisms. The results of the diuretic activity assay showed that the extract had significant diuretic
activity in albino rats. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the ethanol extract of Cissampelos pareira
has potent antimicrobial and diuretic activity. Further studies are needed to identify the active compounds
responsible for these activities and to evaluate their potential as therapeutic agents.
