Abstract

A new flavone glycoside 1, m.p. 248-251oC, m.f. C33H40O20, [M]+ 756 (FABMS) has been isolated from methanol soluble fraction of defatted seeds of Cassia sophera Linn.,which was characterized as 5,7,3’,4’-tetrahydroxy-3-methoxyflavone-5-O-a-L-rhamnopyranosyl-7-O-b-D-glucopyranosyl (1®3)-O-b-D- xylopyranoside by various colour reactions, chemical degradations and spectral analyses. In present paper, it was screened against Bacillus coagulas, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli. and Pseudomonas aerugenosa by using paper disc diffusion method. Results were compared with the zone of inhibition produced by commercially available standard antibiotic. It was observed that it showed good activity against these microbes.
