Abstract

Acacia caesia is a medicinal plant rich in phytochemical compounds which are used for the treatment of skin diseases, sexual problems and wound healing, stomach and tooth problems. The present study deals with the preliminary phytochemical screening of A. caesia for various bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, anthraquinones, flavonoids, glycosides, phenols, tannins, saponins, steroids and terpenoids. And also quantify the bioactive compound flavonoid in the ethanol extract of A. caesia from by High Performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. The main objective of our study is to estimate the quercetin content present in A. caesia ethanolic leaf extract by HPLC method. The estimation of quercetin content in A. caesia ethanolic leaf extract was performed using shim-pack CLC ODS (4.6 × 15 mm) column and a 350 nm detector. The mobile phase consisted of

0.1 % phosphoric acid in water and acetonitrile at 80:20 v/v. The method was validated in compliance with International Conference on Harmonization [ICH] guidelines. In conclusion, the quercetin content present in the ethanolic leaf extract of A. caesiawas found to be 0.76% w/w.
