Abstract

Background: It has been demonstrated that evaluating the early response to antidepressant medication after two to four
weeks may reliably predict remission by eight to twelve weeks. Most of the earlier research on the literature assessed
randomised controlled trials.
Aim: The purpose of this study was to assess the early effects of antidepressant medication on adult participants suffering
from severe depressive disorder.
Methods: At different time periods, the study evaluated baseline reductions in Patient Health Questionnaire 9 scores.
Clinical and demographic information from both early responders and patients who did not receive an early response was
evaluated. Additionally, at week 14, it was evaluated if an early reaction might have anticipated the response, remission,
and more than little improvement.
