ASSESSMENT OF THE SATISFACTION AND FEASIBILITY OF TELEPHONIC PRE-ANESTHETIC CONSULTATIONS FOR FEMALES IN THE THIRD TRIMESTER

Abstract

Background: There are a number of hazards associated with pregnancy, particularly for women who already have health issues. Pre-anesthetic consultation can assist reduce these risks and help set up the medical management plan based on the data that will be delivered. Pre-anesthetic teleconsultation during pregnancy in the Indian setting is not well documented in the literature, despite the fact that its popularity has grown significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Aim: For women in their third trimester, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the viability and level of satisfaction with telephone pre-anesthetic consultations. 

Methods: Women who opted for pre-anesthetic telephone consultation were evaluated in this study. The System Use Scale and Likert scale items were utilized to gauge patient satisfaction in all of the female participants. The satisfaction of anaesthetists was also evaluated using a Likert scale, taking into account modifications to anaesthesia method and absent information from the pre-aesthetic evaluation. Risk factor data, anaesthetist satisfaction data, and the relationship between anaesthetist and patient satisfaction data were evaluated. 

Results: 198 participants in the current study were evaluated, and a satisfaction level of 85% on a Likert scale indicated great satisfaction. According to the system Use scale, 88% of individuals who scored at least 70 said that teleconsultation was satisfactory. In 94% of the study participants, anaesthetist satisfaction with telephone preanaesthetic consultation was seen.

Conclusion: The current study finds that, from the standpoint of obstetrics and gynaecology anaesthesia, teleconsultation with pregnant women in the third trimester of their pregnancy is a practical and efficient type of consultation with high rates of anaesthetist and patient satisfaction.
